CHS students spent the afternoon outside watching the progress of the eclipse while studying shadows and measurements, enjoying team-building activities, writing black-out poetry and drawing the solar system to scale!

CHS students competed in a paper tower construction contest today. Students utilized teamwork
and social skills, and our tallest tower reached over 6 feet!

Highlights of RJH track at Oiler Relays and Victoria Squire Invite

The wood shop class for designed and constructed an addition for Mrs. Schepmann’s desk! The craftsmanship is superior and provides additional workspace!

Four Chase High School students attended the 49th Annual High School Art Exhibition at Fort Hays State University. Not only did students enter artwork for competition, students competed against each other in a chalk drawing contest themed, "Fairytale Mischief." Each school that entered received two sidewalk cement slabs. Numbers at the Art Exhibition were broken this year with 70 schools attending that brought a total of 1200 students. It was a beautiful day to create art outdoors.

This young man had a day he will never forget. Laydn Hinderliter is a sophomore at Chase High School. He has battled cancer for the past 8 years which is more than half his life. He goes in for treatments every six weeks. Today he achieved one of his biggest goals in athletics. He qualified for the KSHSAA Sand Green State Tournament. Sand Green competition does not have a regional. If a players shoots a 95 or better during any tournament, they qualify. Today, at the McCracken Golf Course, Layd'n shot a 90 to earn his spot. He fired a 41 on the backside, which was near the best back nine scores if not the best on the Par 35 layout. He was all smiles afterwards and on the way home. He was able to keep the secret from his Dad until he got home, only telling him he shot 'pretty good.' He also informed me his older brother didn't make it to state until his junior year.

1st Annual Firehouse 5K and pickleball tourney was fun!! We had 10 walkers and 7 teams. Mitch Light won the poker run and Blake and LJ Kizzar won the pickleball!!

USD 401 students spent Monday morning cleaning, organizing and beautifying the town of Chase! As part of the annual Raining Kats & Dogs Community Service day, students and staff spent their time and energy giving back to their hometown. What an amazing group of kids!

Students participated in a Mini Ag Day at the USD 401 Agriculture Education Facility. Students from Kindergarten to 12th grade enjoyed hands-on experiences planting a garden, petting the goats and dairy cow, learning about chickens, bunnies and all the farm equipment necessary to make it all happen!

CHS Biology students successfully completed an experiment in regeneration and asexual reproduction. Planarian flatworms are one of the few animals that have the ability to regenerate missing or damaged body parts, which makes them essential in stem cell and medical research.

Two of the Ag Ed students completed and installed the official sign for the USD 401 Agriculture Education Facility! With some scrap metal and talent, they exceeded expectations! Kudos to Aaron Aguilera and Falyn Spangler for their hard work!

Biology students are prepping for spring!! They started some vegetables and flowers that will move to the school garden in the coming weeks!

Drive Your Tractor to School Day!

Mrs. Miller celebrated FFA week reading Tractor Mac and Stanley the Farmer books to the 4 year old preschool. The 3 year old preschool colored farm animal pictures while Mrs. Miller read a Farm Animal book!

FFA Week is off to a great start! On Sunday students came and made cookies for the COOP
and a special treat for the Kindergartner, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade classes.

Jersey Meyeres attended the South Central District FFA Speech Contest.
She presented a speech about how having a school farm has impacted the ag program.

Select members of Chase FFA traveled to Ad Astra Radio in Lyons today to record spots for National FFA Week and Ag Day! Be sure to tune in to Ad Astra Radio and support your local FFA chapter!!

Special thanks to Mandy Kern from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center for sharing her knowledge with our Biology students today! Not only did they get a better understanding of biodiversity, they learned some new words and got to experience some hands-on scientific concepts.

3rd - 5th and 6th - 8th spelling bee winners. Students will compete in the Rice County Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 24th at 9:00 at Little River High School.

Physics students designed and built bridges with just popsicle sticks and hot glue. They got to test the design and strength. The class ended in the weight room with two bridges maxing out at 165 lbs and 170 lbs!!

The Chase Lady Kats basketball team held its 2nd annual Alumni Scrimmage the day following Thanksgiving.  The event brought out 12 alumni to the event, nearly double the number from the inaugural event last year. The alumni ranged from graduating last year to the Class of 2010. A decent crowd braved the cold, windy day as well. Thanks to alumni Ashley Kelso, Taylor Patton, Jessica Jeske, Ashlyn Altvar, Tierra Patton, Mackenzie Oberle, Maggie Schneider, Tori Dooling, Lindsey Winkelman, Isabella Antuna, Alexis Donovan, and Cassie Herrera.

Chase FFA Pumpkin Patch

Congrats to the winners of the pumpkin trivia giveaway at the Chase FFA Pumpkin Patch! The winners are not in order of photos, Morgyn Meyeres, Arya Koppa, Jersey Meyeres, and Rauiri Ferris! Big thank you to the welding class for making the prizes.

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders had a great Thanksgiving meal.

CHS students learned about career options at the ESSDACK Career Expo! Numerous career fields were highlighted along with the skills and training required. Students enjoyed the hands-on activities as they sampled career options throughout the expo.

The Chase juniors and seniors enjoyed a day at Hutch Community College! They attended an activity fair, toured campus, and enjoyed the yummy food at the cafe!

Stanley is already off on a big adventure! He got a tour of the school before he heads to his first state! Any guesses where he is going? Hint it's nicknamed the Sunshine State! Chase FFA is excited to see all of Stanley's adventures as he travels to all 50 states!

A fun day at South Central District FFA Greenhand Conference! Students had a lot of fun and learned a ton attending workshops and the career fair!

Positive Office Referrals! Twelve CHS students were recognized for having Good Citizenship or going Above and Beyond, with a few students receiving more than one. Great work CHS students!

Jarett Mermis's idea was to help clean the entrance into the city to help with some grant and funding opportunities. So he and wife Audrey (Pray) came up with some ideas they had seen and they found this idea from the Fort Worth stock yard signs that go over the roads. So they put a design together and presented it to city council. Tom Kizzar suggested Chase in red. They liked the idea and asked for it to be put to bid, Leon’s Welding and Fabrication out of Hays won that bid and the city has some ARPA funding from covid relief to use and elected to do so with that. So between their company (JM Builders) and Tim White they helped put it up and will get it cemented soon. Also big thank you to Ellinwood Roustabout and Jayhawk Pipeline for bringing their cranes to place it for us!

Today on 3-13-23, Members of the Chase City and Fire Department broke ground on our new fire station!!
This was truly a team effort as between city and fire dept members, over 90% of the total building cost was fund raised from in and around our community! We would like to Thank every single person and business that donated and made this effort come to fruition!!
Building will start in the next couple weeks with a finish goal of June 1st!
